Reblogging Etiquette

I agree with the basic sentiment, but it falls short when no credit is given to the actual artist–the person who took the photo. Even if it’s a photo you took, it would be nice to know explicitly who deserves credit.

In the case of old photos, we should also not forget that someone had to collect, preserve, scan, and upload the photo in order that we could find and post it. If it comes from your personal collection of originals, give yourself credit, but if as is likely, you found it somewhere on the internet, credit is owed to that source as well.

A bunch of people had to do a bunch of work so that we could click “Share on Tumblr.” Reblogging without credit is lame, but let’s not forget to give credit where it’s due–otherwise we’re just as parasitical as no-credit rebloggers.

Please, if you reblog something from someone on Tumblr, do *not* remove their name, and the names of who else it may have originated from. Some of us try very hard to find intereresting, rare photos and to remove the titles, and who posted it originally is not acceptable. All my followers seem…

Please, if you reblog something from someone on Tumblr, do *not* remove their name, and the names of who else it may have originated from.   Some of us try very hard to find intereresting, rare photos and to remove the titles, and who posted it originally is not acceptable.  All my followers seem super nice, and I removed the one who reblogged the Marlene Dietrich photo I posted this morning without any credit at all – so, onwards and upwards now.  =)
